Team Edwardes Racing secured two positive results for both their drivers at Round 2 of the British Rallycross Championship at the Knockhill track in Scotland. After a trying start to the weekend, which saw the Revivals team’s lorry breaking down just outside Newcastle resulting in the rest of the team and cars not arriving to the track until 2 in the morning, the team were ready for practice to get underway.
The first problem of the day arose after the driveshaft of Toms classic Mini snapped leaving him parked up on the grass before the practise session was even over. However with the help of the whole team, the car was soon fixed and ready for its first set of heats. Tom went on to secure a list of impressive times as he spent the day duelling with rival and Edwardes Racing’s team mechanic Richard Wakeling. Tom went on to secure second in class to Richard in the A Final, just 0.2 seconds behind as the pair crossed the line. This strong finish means he is now tied for the lead of the championship with Wakeling after just two rounds.
With improvements being made to BMW Mini during the two events, George had a much improved second event showing that he can once again challenge for overall event victories. The rough and fast Knockhill track suited Georges aggressive driving style, allowing to exploit the cars full potential. A clash and resultant puncture in the first heats left George with the 5th fastest time, but victory in the 2nd and 3rd heats allowed him to secure Pole position for the A Final. However a poor start and miss-timing of his joker lap left George in 3rd place as he crossed the line. Although he finished only in third position, the improved performance of the car was clear to all and showed a large step forward in the cars development with the potential to build upon in future races.
A big thank you must go out to the Revivals team who put a huge effort into the preparation and running of not only the BMW Mini but also the classic Mini. The next round of the British Championship takes place at Mallory Park in Leicestershire on the 22nd of July where once again both of the teams drivers will be participation. In the mean time George will be once again driving one of the teams classic Minis in a one off appearance during the MDA’s annual ‘Euro Trip’ week in Holland and Belgium from the 5th July to the 16 July.
